Funtonia Communicates with eDave

General NewsOn 8 October 2007 I received an e-mail message from Funtonia.com indicating that they are taking care of the telephone problem. They also asked me to take this site down. While I appreciate the correction of the telephone number, which they were supposed to do over 11 months ago, the correction does not change the fact that over 600 people and counting believe they have received nothing for their money. They say that the ring tones don't work, they can't get the ring tones on their phones, or that Funtonia charged them way more than they were supposed to. While I believe that these situations arise from awful policies and bad customer service and not from dishonesty, it still stinks that so many people paid for something they can't get to work and that Funtonia won't refund, or at least has not yet refunded, their money. Thus, I intend to keep this site up to help people understand what they're getting into with Funtonia as far as their refund policies and customer service. This site is completely legitimate since it is a consumer criticism site providing opinion and information about Funtonia, and there are plenty of court cases and WIPO decisions to support this position.

I hope the information on this site can help people get their money back or find better alternatives to meet their ring tone needs. At the very least, for people looking into Funtonia, I hope the information on this site alerts them to the fact that their money is unlikely to be refunded if there is a problem with anything they buy from Funtonia.

IF YOU HAVE HAD A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE WITH FUNTONIA, PLEASE POST A COMMENT OR SEND E-MAIL WITH YOUR STORY AND OPINION.

Very few calls, now - that we answer, anyway

It looks like Funtona might actually have changed the phone number with the credit card clearance companies. The only calls I've answered that were for Funtonia since my last post in November were about charges from September. The number of votes on the poll has gone up tremendously, but it looks as though at least some of the visits now are coming from searches as opposed to people calling and hearing my outgoing message. In any case, judging by the comments that people have left, Funtonia is still next to nonresponsive to cutsomer complaints, though one person posted their mostly positive experience as a comment here.

Calls STILL coming! Banks don't want information?

Yes, here we are, over a month after Funtonia tells me they've corrected the phone number trouble, and people are STILL calling us with Funtonia charge issues. How hard can it be for Funtonia to change the number with the various credit card clearing houses, etc., that they employ? Maybe it will just take a few more billing cycles...

Usually, the calls we receive are the people charged, but today I received a call from the anti-fraud department of a bank whose customer was disputing a Funtonia charge. When I explained that I had posted information on this web site that the bank might find useful, did the representative say, "Great! What a time saver! What's the URL?" No, no, the rep didn't want any information other than the phone number that they had was not Funtonia's. This struck me as odd, at first, but then I started thinking about the way the department might work, and it was probably easier for the rep to simply enter that the phone number was no longer valid and leave it at that than for her to get more information. Additional information on the record would probably have meant more time spent on the particular dispute, which would hurt her quota/productivity, possibly reducing her chances of scoring a bonus, maybe even dinging her in harsher manners. I wonder what happens to the disputes once the invalid number is noted? Do they just get written off, or does the bank talk to Funtonia and demand reimbursement? Probably the former. Ah, corporate life.

Calls still coming

Funtonia said they had taken care of the phone number thing. If they did, it hasn't taken in at least some cases, because we're still getting about 2 calls per day on average. However, few are leaving messages of any kind, now. So how do we know they're Funtonia-related calls? We've picked up some of the calls with "Unknown" or "Restricted" caller IDs to be asked whether we're Funtonia and we launch into our explanations. Calls come with numbers we don't recognize from area codes we've never used. That sort of thing.

Welcome to FuntoniaBAD

General NewsIf you're here, you probably found this site through a search or from a forum. Until recently, you might have been referred here by my outgoing voice mail message since Funtonia was distributing my phone number with some of their credit card charges for at least 11 months. In any case, you are either looking into Funtonia before buying or you believe you were charged too much by Funtonia, want a refund from them for a ringtone that didn't work, or something along those lines. If you believe that you were ripped off and/or are owed a refund, you aren't alone - hundreds, maybe thousands, of others believe that they have been ripped off, too.

If you got here via my outgoing phone message, please understand that the number you called DOES NOT BELONG TO FUNTONIA. It's my household phone number, a SkypeIn number I bought for my household in November 2006. I set up this site to try to help the hundreds/thousands of customers of Funtonia who called seeking a refund.

Based on what callers have told me, Funtonia is essentially non-responsive to e-mail requests for refunds and lists no phone number on their site for customer service. To get your money back, you can try to dispute the charge on your credit card. This should work, but different credit card companies apply different standards. From what I've heard and from my reading of their terms of service, Funtonia is very unlikely to give you a refund.

If you buy ring tones in the future, I recommend doing a lot of research or going through your cell phone company. Yes, it might be more expensive, but it's more likely to work if you get it through your cell phone company, and you know who they are.

I don't think that Funtonia is trying to rip people off. However, I do think that Funtonia's refund policy is horrible and that consumers are unlikely to realize that the policy is as draconian as it is. All this said, there are apparently a lot of fully satisfied Funtonia customers out there, so the things they sell must work for some people.

McAffee SiteAdvisor: Funtonia site looks safe, all reviews negative

Other ReportsI found This entry on McAffee's Site Advisor. It lists Funtonia's site as being safe. There are 5 reviews, including my own, all of which are negative. There are opportunities for Funtonia to respond, if they become aware of the entry. Of course, since Funtonia has been to my site and continues to give out my phone number, and has not posted any comment here or sent me e-mail, I doubt that they would respond to the Site Advisor comments.

Review indicates Funtonia not as good as other service

Other ReportsA story at the Credit and Finance blog doesn't report Funtonia as ripping people off, but as not as good an option as another company. Click "Read more" for details.

Roller Coaster Call Volume

We actually had no Funtonia calls for several days. Since the Funtonia people visited this site a week or so ago, I thought maybe they had corrected the phone number problem. But then we got a whole bunch of calls, again, starting a couple of days ago. Sigh.

Call Volume Drop

I set up this site, and the number of calls goes down. Yeah, it went back up for a while, but now we're getting three or fewer calls a day for over a week. Maybe the credit card clearing houses have removed my phone number from Funtonia's charges? I guess time will tell.
